Job offer: Laboratory Technician in Molecular Biology and Genomics


POSITION DESCRIPTION

Laboratory Technician in Molecular Biology and Genomics (3-year contract linked to funding call).

The Botanical Institute of Barcelona (IBB) is a joint research center between the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) and the Consortium of the Natural Science Museum of Barcelona. The IBB studies plant diversity from multiple perspectives: biodiversity, evolution, genomics, and plant–insect interactions, among others.

Within the framework of the Spanish National Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2024–2027 – State Subprogram for Training and Incorporation of Technical and R&D+i Management Personnel, we are looking for candidates interested in applying for this grant and joining our research team.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Contract type: Temporary (3 years), subject to the granting of AEI funding
• Working hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
• Gross annual salary: ~€18,700 (with university degree) / ~€15,600 (with Higher Vocational Training degree)
• Expected call date: November 2025

PROFILE

We are seeking a technician with training and interest in molecular biology and genomics, to provide technical support to projects on plant biodiversity and evolution.

Minimum requirements:

• Education: Higher Vocational Training (FP) in Analysis and Control, or a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or related fields
• Experience with basic molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR)
• Ability to work in a team and good organizational skills

Additional valued skills:

• Previous experience with NGS techniques and/or bioinformatics
• Knowledge in data analysis and quality control
• Experience in laboratory equipment maintenance and management

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Extraction and purification of DNA/RNA from plant samples
2. Preparation of libraries for high-throughput sequencing (NGS)
3. Performing PCR and qPCR
4. Maintenance and management of laboratory equipment and supplies
5. Support in data analysis and quality control
