
CALL 1 · POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN BIOINFORMATICS

In collaboration with research groups led by Dr. Josefa González (CSIC) & Dr. Aurora Ruiz-Herrera (UAB)
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join a cutting-edge project focused on developing and improving computational tools and platforms for the integrative analysis of genomic data. The goal is to advance our understanding of genome function, 3D genome structure, and evolution, by developing:
- New algorithms for multi-omic data integration
- Scalable, reproducible, and user-friendly computational platforms
- Tools for the analysis and storage of genomic, epigenomic, structural, and functional data from model and non-model species
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of computational biology, AI, high-performance computing, climate change, and biodiversity, contributing to innovative digital solutions with applications in agriculture, livestock, and aquaculture.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
PhD in Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related fields; proficiency in English; experience working in UNIX/Linux command-line environments; programming experience in R, Python, Perl; familiarity with machine learning/AI methods.
ADDITIONAL MERITS
Experience with NGS data processing and analysis; knowledge of NCBI databases and tools; skills in data visualization and graphic design (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop); experience developing graphical interfaces.

CONTRACT DETAILS
Indefinite contract as Postdoctoral Researcher under the Spanish Science Law. End of contract: 31/03/2029. Competitive salary: 41,000 € – 52,000 € gross/year.

CALL 2 · BIOINFORMATICIAN POSITION
The Evolutionary and Functional Genomics Lab at the Institut Botànic de Barcelona (IBB-CSIC), led by Dr. Josefa González, uses a multidisciplinary approach combining bioinformatics and experimental methods to investigate the role of transposable elements in evolution and adaptation. This position is framed in a collaborative project with the group of Dr. Nuria Flames, an expert in nervous system evolution and adaptation in nematodes. Both labs are funded by the Spanish government and the European Union (ERC Consolidation grant).
PROJECT
“Dissecting the role of mobile elements in nervous system evolution and nematode adaptation”. Tasks include identifying, annotating, and analyzing the distribution of transposable elements in different species and populations of nematodes.
REQUIREMENTS
Degree and Master’s in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology, Biotechnology, or related bioscience fields; good programming skills.
WILL BE CONSIDERED
- PhD is not required but will be considered
- Experience with high-performance computing or use of clusters (SLURM)
- Additional education, courses, or workshops
- Publication record and/or contributions to conferences
- Previous lab experience
- English proficiency
CONTRACT DETAILS
1-year contract with the possibility of extension. Funded by national and European research projects.
